Family walk for The Mission to Seafarers Panama

Hi everyone, my name is Tomás Hutchinson.
On the 14th of July 2023, my father, my brother, my aunt, and I will travel to Spain to walk a portion of the Camino de Santiago (from San Sebastián to Bilbao).
We want to do this walk to raise money for The Mission to Seafarers work in Panama.
We will walk 110km in 6 days (roughly 22km per day).
My father is the Port Chaplain for The Mission to Seafarers in Panama. I have discovered that 90% of what we buy in the shops comes to us by sea. That includes the computer I am typing this on, the boots and clothes I'll wear on the walk, and most of the food that you and I eat every day. I’ve also discovered how difficult seafarers’ lives are. They’re often away from family and home for 6-11 months at a time. Many ships still don’t have internet, and because of the pandemic, in many parts of the world, they can’t go ashore for rest and recreation.
My dad and his team, try to help by providing SIM cards and data for their phones, help with shopping, and gifts of books, chocolates, and coffee to cheer them up. Often, they also support seafarers by offering a friendly listening ear and counselling, this is particularly important for seafarers’ mental health.

The objective of this walk is to raise money to expand the work of The Mission to Seafarers in Panama, which is one of the world’s major, maritime hubs. Throughout the fundraising and walk, I will post updates and images to keep everyone informed. Thank you for your generous support!
