Family Vargas Hurricane Relief
My name is Milton Vargas. My family of 7 and I live in Friendswood, Texas and we have been heavily impacted by the destruction left in the wake of Hurricane Harvey.
We awoke at 4am on Sunday morning to find 2ft of water filling every inch of our house. We quickly ran to the front door to see that our street was completely flooded and that water levels were rising at an alarming rate. After quickly securing our children with life jackets, we ran outside to wait for help. We anxiously held onto our kids and prayed with each passing hour that help would be on the way. Eight hours went by before rescue boats came for us.
Our house was completely flooded. The photos that you see here were taken that Sunday morning before we were rescued. This means that the torrential downpours have continued to fill our home since we've been away. I expect that when we return, all of our belongings will be submerged in at least 4ft of water.
We have been displaced from our home ever since. We know that once the floods begin to recede, we will have a long road ahead of us as we work to rebuild our lives again. Still, we thank God for the safety of our precious family.
We left our home with nothing but the clothes on our backs. We humbly ask our friends and neighbors for any donations you are willing to spare. I am the sole provider for my family of 7. I hope to use these donations to purchase food, clothing, and other necessary items. My vehicle, and only mode of transportation, was also lost to the floods. Please know that anything you can help us with is greatly appreciated and we will be giving thanks for your kindness for the rest of our days.
Thank you for helping us rebuild our lives. We have many long days ahead of us, but we are Houston strong. And we know this is a nation that loves boldy. Together, we will rebuild and we will make it through.
