Family support during recovery

Evert is 57 years old, loving husband to Carolyn and father to 2 adopted children aged 16 and 12. For 12 years he has owned and operated his own small business doing stone chip and scratch repairs on cars, working 6 days – sometimes 7 days per week to support his family. Financially, things have been tough over the years with companies closing and owing thousands of dollars, but Evert and Carolyn have made it through.  While the business has either struggled or done OK, Income Protection Insurance was expensive and not a priority.

 On Tuesday, March 27th 2018, Evert took a rare day off to begin a project he was planning to complete over the Easter Break. While on the roof of the pergola, one of the polycarbonate sheets gave way and he fell 3.5 metres onto concrete which broke his pelvis in 2 places. He was taken by Ambulance to the Royal Melbourne Hospital where he went into surgery to have screws and a plate put in to assist the healing process which means he will not be able to walk for 6 weeks and then another 6 weeks of rehabilitation before he can get back to work.

Family and friends have rallies around Carolyn and the children to support them through this difficult time, through prayer, food and child care, although with no income coming in, no income protection and no support from Government at this stage their financial situation is dire and could mean Carolyn will have to sell their home and move before Evert comes home.

Our situation is urgent, we need financial help to see us through the next 3 months, things like paying the mortgage, petrol for trips to the Hospital and phones to keep in touch, household gas and electricity and credit card payments and minimal disruption to the children’s routine.
