Family asking for donations for medical bills and living expense bills
Carlos was born in Cañas Guanacaste, Costa Rica in July of 1978. At eleven months old he swallowed a cup of lye his mother was cleaning their home with. The poison quickly burned through his body causing horrible immediately life threatening damage. He was put into a medically induced coma and doctors were able to save his life through major surgeries to repair the damage done by the poison.
His mother was unable to take care of him with his new medical needs which included a trach and feeding tube and so Carlos became an orphan who was in and out of the hospital for the next few years. In 1982 he went to live with a foster family and then he was adopted by a family in the United States here in Omaha, NE in September 1982.
Throughout his childhood Carlos endured 8 major surgeries and many other procedures. Carlos has lived all these years breathing through a trach because his airway was the size of a pin hole due to all of the scar tissue. We recently met a surgeon who was able to preform a surgery on 3/22/18 and remove the scar tissue blocking his airway so he can live a longer, healthier life.
Hestill has the trach, but we are hopeful the surgeon will eventually be able to remove it. Another surgery will mean even more financial burden, but a much better quality of life for Carlos. The medical costs and time off from work has put our family in a very difficult financial position.
We are now asking for any financial assistance others are willing to give to help us pay our bills while Carlos recovers. Any financial assistance and prayers is greatly appreciated.
