On November 20, 2018, 2 days before Thanksgiving my brother's girlfriend and mother of 2 girls was in a horrible car accident where she almost lost her life. She was driving in the middle of a snow storm and rolled my brother's truck on the highway on her way to work. She was thrown from the vehicle and suffered a broken neck, shattered arm, chipped pelvis, and bleeding on her brain. She was driven to Bringham and Womens Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts to undergo surgery. The brain bleeding was stabilized but she remained in critical condition with her neck. It was found that she had what they called a "hangman's fracture" . Basically there are only 2 outcomes with that type of fracture one of them being death and the other being alive with a halo in place for 3 months to keep the neck from moving so the fracture can heal.
We thank God that Courtney is still with us but she has a very long road to recovery ahead . She will be having surgery today to repair her arm and she had the halo put in place 2 days ago. The doctor's are telling my brother (Dave) that she will need to remain in Boston for her post operative care as well as rehabilitation for her neck and arm for at the very least the next month but it is probable it could be the next 2 months. The recovery wont stop there as the halo will need to be in place for at least 3 months. The recovery period for everything would be at least 6 months possibly more.
My brother has lost his one and only reliable vehicle (especially for the winter months as it was a 4 wheel drive truck), it is totaled from the accident, he has another car but it was just a grocery getter as it is really not safe enough to drive long distances and definitely not to Boston at all. He is a seasonal worker (roofing) and his work has pretty much come to an end for season which means his income is going to be minimal as well. My brother and Courtney have 2 little girls ages 2 (Amina) and 11 (Kyra) to take care of. Courtney was just starting out with her own cleaning business along with working a local retail job.
We are asking for help to cover Courtney's medical bills, she has insurance but it is possible she might have additional costs since she is at a hospital in Boston and lives in Concord, NH. We are also asking for any donations to help get my brother another safe and reliable vehicle since his current vehicle is not reliable and would not be able to be driven back and forth to Boston. Lastly, we are asking for donations to help with groceries, rent, and utilities. Going from a 2 income household down to a 1 partial income household is as some of you know, very devastating especially with Christmas coming.
Our families are banding together to help as much as we can but the need is just too great for us . We know the holidays are upon us and there are lots of people in need during this season so all we ask is for a donation of anything extra you can spare.
No donation is too small!
I know I speak for both my brother and Courtney as well as the girls when I say THANK YOU for taking the time to read this and may God bless you.
