Family medical and hardship

Donation protected
My name is Janice and we are from Crowley, Texas. Our family needs your help.

My husband has been a working paramedic for the last 30 years until he suffered an injury while helping a patient. He was assaulted by that individual. His injuries required a significant cervical spine surgery and he now suffers from permanent nerve damage.  He had a total hip replacement for the second time this past spring to rebuild a deteriorated hip joint and prosthesis. He now suffers with severe arthritis and disc displacement in  his spine that is requiring comprehensive medical care and anticipates surgery in the near future. He is plagued with constant pain, acute depression, and PTSD.

He was let go from the organization he worked for after 23 loyal years and is unable to return to his love of being a paramedic due to his injuries and disabilities.

We have been doing okay floating through month to month with the help of a worker's comp check and my small check.  Once he reached maximum medical improvement (MMI) this past May worker's comp stopped. We are now without that income. I am a fulltime Certified Nursing Assistant at Huguley hospital. I bring home between $250 and $300 every two weeks. Our 18 year old son is working part time at HEB and is attending EMT school to follow in his father's footsteps. He makes minimal, but enough to sustain himself and help with some groceries.

We filed for unemployment benefits and was denied because he did not earn enough within a set amount of time due to being out on medical. He has appealed it, but this could take up to 6 months because of the recent hurricane victims and folks that are worse off than us.

We filed for social security disability in May of this year with the help of a disability lawyer who is confident that our case is solid, but tells us to "be patient" for another month or two. Meanwhile we have bills that are stacking up. If only they could be patient.

Last night our car was repossessed and we really need it back so I can get to work and back, but it will cost us $1400.00. We have until the end of this week to get this to the bank. The bank has expressed that they are willing to work with us if we can pay the $1400.

We have lot rent of $445 for a mobile home that we own, basic utilities, and until yesterday a car payment of $444. We do not have credit cards or extras.

We have applied to get monies from my retirement fund, however this is not an easy process and is taking some time. We hope to have  funds available within the next month.

This is taking a toll on us as a family unit. My husband is sinking deeper into depression and I am concerned this impedes his healing process from his surgeries. Our son can only watch.

My husband has been a man that has humbly helped countless folks from all walks whether treating others as a Paramedic, organizing Golf Tournaments to help someone in need, or simply as a man ministering to others. He loves all as God instructs and rarely, if ever, asks for help. Those that know him love and respect him dearly. It is heartbreaking to see him crumble.

Any and all funds that are donated are to strictly pay for the recovery of our vehicle, utility bills that are outstanding and upcoming lot rent. If any is left it will be applied to the upcoming month. In the unlikely, but hopeful event that Social Security approves our claim and starts disability income benefits  we will donate any left funds to our church towards hurricane victims.

We need to get through this time of tribulation and "be patient" as our lawyer says. We have faith that our God will see us through.  Thank You and as my husband would say, "Isle of Olive View".
