Family lost home with flood

Donation protected
Anyone who knows me knows that I usually never ask for help, sometimes to my husband's dismay. I pride myself on being independent and able to handle most anything that life gives me. This time, however, I realized I need to set aside my pride for the sake of helping my family.

Less than a week ago most of the nation was watching the news, awaiting the impending arrival of Hurricane Florence. I was also watching intently and trying to keep in touch with my family to ensure they were okay. Though I am currently stationed in Texas, my hometown is Dillon, SC which is about an hour inland. Most of my family still lives in Dillon and ironically, a few live in and around Florence, SC. After all of the belongings in my family's house were destroyed by flooding from Hurricane Matthew two years ago, we were all very worried about the same thing happening with Hurricane Florence.

Unfortunately, the forecasts that projected catastrophic flooding across NC and SC were accurate. The attached picture shows the street that my family lives on; their house is the second one from the right. The waters subsided enough today for them to actually get into the house for the first time since Friday. My Mom said that all of the furniture is soaked, appliances have been toppled over, and there is dirt and garbage on the floors and walls. Thankfully, my family are all okay, except my youngest brother who managed to break his foot/ankle during the flooding. He has surgery scheduled tomorrow, and he will be fine too. Guess he felt he needed to add more drama to the situation. ;)But other than that, they are all in good spirits considering the circumstances.

My family lives on meager means already. Now we are looking at having to replace their furniture, clothes, beds, and appliances, not to mention that they will likely have to relocate. I am blessed to have had a successful career and I try to help my family out as much as I can. My siblings are already there helping out now. I feel a little helpless here in Texas, but I will do my best to help from afar until I can get there. I have also had some wonderful friends reach out to me, asking how they can help. They gave me the courage to set up this page for my family. Any donation is greatly appreciated. I can't really give a good estimate for what everything will cost at the moment, but any amount you give will go directly towards helping them get back on their feet. Prayers are also welcome and needed as my family and thousands of others start the arduous task of rebuilding. My family and my hometown are resilient and they will get through this... with faith, hope, and love.
