Family Fund for Eric's Cancer Fight

In July of 2013, Eric Hurtado was diagnosed with a form of Cancer called Multiple Myeloma.
He was only 27 years old.
For the past four years, Eric has endured more physical and emotional pain than most people do in a lifetime. He has had continuous rounds of chemotherapy, ER visits, and prolonged hospital stays.
Through all of Eric's battles with this disease, he continues to fight until he beats this. He fights because he is a man of faith and he knows that it is a matter of when, and not if, he will be cured. He fights because his wife, Veronica, and 11-year-old son Caden, mean the world to him and he has big plans for his family's future. And he fights because he knows he has an army of friends and family supporting him along the way.
A few weeks ago, Eric got a call to meet with his Oncologist at UCSF, Dr. Thomas Martin, about an EXCLUSIVE clinical trial called "Car T-Cell Therapy", and Eric learned that he is a candidate for the trial. CAR T cells use a patient's own immune cells to treat their disease. In this form of therapy, immune cells are collected from a patient’s blood; engineered in the laboratory to produce special receptors called chimeric-antigen receptors, or CARs, that attach to a specific target on cancer cells (an antigen); grown in the lab until they number in the billions; and then reinfused back into the patient. Results from two recent clinical trials suggest that a form of immunotherapy that uses genetically engineered immune cells may be highly effective in patients with advanced Multiple Myeloma.
Needless to say, this was GREAT NEWS for Eric and his family to receive!

The clinical trial is 30 days long and will take place in November/December in San Francisco. Because the trial is outpatient, Eric and his family will need to stay in a hotel in the city. It is extremely important for Eric's family to be by his side for support during the trial, so we are reaching out to ask for your help. The funds we raise here will help pay for the cost of the hotel and living expenses during the trial.
