Family Farm in the making.

My name is Anthony Snobl. I currently am unemployed due to covid. Since I have had more time to spend with family I have decided that I would like to get a family farm started. My Grandparents did hand down a small farm to my uncle which I used to help on but unfortunately that will be be going to his daughter when she is ready.

The plan is to find land and most likely move to an area where I can get 200-300 acres to start farming hay. A 2020 study showed Iowa 9th in production of Alfalfa but the cost of land is much higher than places like Oklahoma (ranked 28th) and  Missouri (ranked 22nd). If I am able to raise the money to help get the farm started I have secured a couple of people who are interested in helping get this off the ground. My father is looking to retire and said he would enjoy helping get a family farm started and would be looking to add his experience of growing up and helping on farms. I also have another gentleman who is interested in helping and being a partner in the farm as we grow to continue to farm the land together while expanding . We hope to get the farm to be sustainable in its first couple of years and once we get a client base down and get things running efficiently we plan on figuring out the logistics side to offer delivery to the majority of the country.  Our goal is to be in an area that we could deliver the product within a 24 hour period which would help minimize any chances of inclement weather ruining the hay.

To start I will be looking at what we need to get rolling. Allocating funding for used equipment that will be needed for day to day operations as well as looking for the land we need. We will be looking to get sets of equipment. We believe that we can minimize cost by buying in bulk for maintenance. So we want to buy 2-3 of the same kinds of equipment. We are mechanically inclined which will help us also cut cost and is a big reason we are looking for some older used equipment.

We plan to use social media to reach new customers and to help give them a look into the day to day process that we would be doing. We understand that social media can be a powerful tool to help you stand out and can help give that personal touch with your customers. Hopefully this will aid in inspiring others to team up and chase their farming dreams no matter your experience or background.

I know the goal seems high. The reason behind this is because it is needed and if we hit the goal there will be fees taken out. The plan of having up to 3 machines for each job does mean added expense but it also means more efficiency and the benefit of being able to continue with production if one machine needs repaired. If this goal is met it would help a lot. This would put 2 families from different backgrounds into a business that can be passed down to the next generation.

If we could hit our goal in the next 2-4 months it would be ideal. We would want to be able to put a down payment on land before the first cut would be scheduled. While we will be allocating funds when possible to purchase the equipment first to make sure that it will be ready for the first cut we will continue to look for land to purchase during these times. If we are unable to find this land we are going to start using the equipment by either renting land or asking farmers if they we could mow their waterways to help get started.

I just want to take a moment to thank everyone who took time to read about our goal and our story. Any and all assistance is appreciated. I am thankful for the opportunity to even be doing this. America needs farmers and our families are excited to be part of that amazing community. We will keep everyone updated and hopefully be able to share our story with you along the entire process. Below we have attached who we are.
