RWC Family Car Crash - Survivor Support
At about 4:00 pm on a beautiful Saturday afternoon, the Palencia-Valesquez family, long-time residents of Redwood City, were traveling up to a restaurant in Healdsburg for dinner.
Everything in the world was right. The Pandemic was easing and visitors were just beginning to be welcomed back to Sonoma County. Lourdes and her children, Ivone, Manuel, and Paola, and Paola's best friend Kathy, were happy, together, healthy, and looking forward to the special meal they planned to share.
Around this time, on the very same afternoon, Agustin Delariva, 29, of Santa Rosa, was headed north on HWY 101. He had been drinking. Delariva didn't have a driver's license; it had been suspended for a prior DUI. He didn't have insurance. He was driving a suspected stolen vehicle.
The Palencia-Valesquez family had no idea their lives were about to be changed forever.
At approximately 4:10pm, witnesses say Delariva was speeding, possibly going in excess of 70 mph when he plowed into the back of Palencia-Valesquez family.
The family suffered multiple catastrophic injuries; injuries to the brain, spine, neck, and orthopedic injuries too extensive to list. After spending exactly three long months in the hospital, everyone in the family has finally returned home where they continue to tend to their health conditions.
Their journey to reclaim their health and their lives will be long, painful, and difficult to navigate.

+ The family (in total) accumulated over 7mo of 24/7 care in ICU/Trauma Unit.
+ Injuries are extensive and will require months — if not years — to fully recover.
