AUSTIN, TX (June 7, 2018) -- On June 14th, 2018, Austin will host a rally to protest the current administration’s callous treatment of immigrants and asylum seekers.


The announcement of June 7, indicated that the march would begin outside Austin City Hall at 6PM However, one of the local organizations we reached out to, Grassroots Leadership, is already hosting an event at City Hall in support of the Austin City Council Vote on the Freedom City Policy and as such the event has been adjusted. The focus will now be on the rally at the Texas State Capitol starting at 6:30PM Participants can begin gathering between 6 - 6:30PM or they can join the event at City Hall before heading over to the rally at 6:30 p.m. While these are separate events they both will have tremendous impact on immigrant families in Austin and those arriving at the border. The rally will have a diverse, expert and inspirational speaker lineup and end by 8PM with a Call to Action.


On Sunday, June 10, MoveOn.org will be hosting a call where these nationwide events will be announced and supported by the National Domestic Workers Alliance the sponsor for Families Belong Together national organizing committee.


A section for the media will be available at the rally for a 5-minute post-stage Q&A and a 15-minute end-of-rally media melee.


Families Belong Together is a coalition of concerned citizens who are disheartened by the lack of leadership in Congress whose job is to be a check on the federal government when it overreaches and abuses its power and commits these atrocities in the name of the American people. These immigrants are victims of violence, hunger, and poverty and our government’s actions re-violate them, causing untold damage. Children as young as 18 months are torn from their mothers’ arms by our own government. We are calling for immediate reforms because these practices are not in line with American values.


Since March of 2017, when then DHS Secretary John Kelly confirmed considering a family separation policy.  Although Kelly had originally backed down due to mounting pressure, from July - November 2017, an internal memo showed that the current administration implemented the family separation process in New Mexico and West Texas for 5 months.  Since that time, the current administration has only ramped up their cruel and inhumane policy of family separation, and on April 20, 2018, government data obtained by the New York Times showed that DHS had already separated 700 children from parents, including over 100 children under the age of 4.  This all culminated to the actions of May 7, 2018, when Sessions issued a statement explaining the policy of prosecuting parents and separating families:


I have put in place a “zero tolerance” policy for illegal entry on our Southwest border.  If you cross this border unlawfully, then we will prosecute you. It’s that simple. If you smuggle illegal aliens across our border, then we will prosecute you.  If you are smuggling a child, then we will prosecute you and that child will be separated from you as required by law.


Families Belong Together is a coalition of Americans who oppose the treatment of immigrant families, and indeed all immigrants, by the current administration and past administrations. We stand against the separation of children from their families and other human rights abuses associated with the U.S. immigration enforcement apparatus. We demand immediate reforms to address this inhumane treatment of innocent human beings on our own soil.

FAMILIAS UNIDAS, NO DIVIDIDAS DEMOSTRACIÓN TOMARÁ LUGAR EN LOS PASOS DEL SUR DEL CAPITOLIO EL 14 DE JUNIO

AUSTIN, TX (6 de junio 2018) -- El 14 de junio, 2018, Austin será sitio de una demostración para protestar el tratamiento inhumano de los inmigrantes y solicitantes de asilo por la administración actual.


La demostración tomará en los pasos del sur del capitolio empezando a las 6:30 de la noche con una alineación de oradores y terminará para las 8 de la noche con una llamada a la acción.  Vamos a tener un momento de silencio para significar el silencio que los padres están sufriendo en no poder estar juntos con sus hijos y hijas a causa de esta póliza de separación tan cruel y inhumano después del largo camino que han atravesado para llegar al supuesto país de la libertad.


Una sección para los medios estará disponible para entrevistar a los oradores por 5 minutos después de que hablan y en otra oportunidad por 15 minutos al fin de la demostración.


Families Unidas, No Divididas es una coalición de ciudadanos preocupados que están desalentados por la falta de liderazgo en el congreso cuáles sus trabajos es ser un control de equilibrio al gobierno federal cuando se sobrepasan y abusan de su poder y cometen atrocidades en el nombre de la gente de los Estados Unidos. Los inmigrantes afectados por esta póliza son víctimas de violencia, hambre, y pobreza y las acciones del gobierno de los Estados Unidos los vuelve a violar, causando daño sin medida. Niños y niñas tan chicos de 18 meses están siendo arrancados de los brazos de sus madres por nuestro gobierno.  Estamos llamando por reformas inmediatas porque estas prácticas no están alineadas con los valores de este país.


Esta póliza empezó el marzo del 2017, cuando el entonces secretario del departamento de seguridad del país John Kelly confirmo haber estado considerando la póliza de la separación de familias inmigrantes.  Aunque Kelly originalmente retrocedido la idea debido a la creciente presión, un memorando interno reveló que la administración actual implementó el proceso de separación en Nuevo México y el oeste de Tejas del julio por cinco meses, desde el julio hasta el noviembre de 2017.  Desde ese tiempo, la administración actual solamente han incrementado su póliza cruel e inhumana de separar a familias, y en el 20 de abril del los datos del gobierno obtenida por el periódico “The New York Times” sacó a luz que el departamento de seguridad nacional ya había separado a 700 niños y niñas de sus padres, incluyendo a más de 100 niños y niñas bajo los 4 años de edad.  Todo esto ha culminado a las acciones del 7 de mayo del 2018, cuando el fiscal general Jeff Sessions emitió esta declaración explicando a esta póliza de enjuiciando a padres y separando a familias:


Yo he puesto en lugar una póliza de “cero tolerancia” para la entrada ilegal en la frontera del sur.  Si tu cruzas la frontera ilegalmente, entonces te vamos a enjuiciar. Es así de simple. Si pasas a ilegales por nuestra frontera, entonces te vamos a enjuiciar.  Si tú pasas a un niño o niña, entonces vamos a enjuiciar a ti y ese niño o niña está separado de ti como requiere la ley.


Familias Unidas, No Divididas es una coalición de gente Estadounidense que opone el tratamiento de familias inmigrantes, y por seguro todos los inmigrantes, por la administración actual y por administraciones pasadas. Nos oponemos contra la separación de niños y niñas de sus familias y oponemos a otros abuses de derechos humanos asociados con el aparato de aplicación de inmigración de los Estados Unidos. Demandamos inmediatas reformas para dirigirá este tratamiento inhumano de gente humana e inocente en la tierra de los Estados Unidos.
