It is with great sadness that we inform you all that after an arduous month-long struggle with pancreatic cancer, Juan has passed. We want to thank you all for your outpouring of support over the past few days.
In the wake of this tragedy, as Juan’s family begins to grieve, there are still many issues to be sorted out and addressed. There are the bills incurred over a month-long hospital stay. Ana, who is not working, currently faces the remaining few months of a house lease along with utility payments through the early summer. Additionally, the Theurers must organize service and burial arrangements to commemorate Juan’s life. With your help, we aim to meet our initial campaign goal so that Ana and her children may deal with their grief and begin to heal without having to bear these significant financial burdens.

OVERVIEW:
At age 59, Juan Alberto Theurer was recently diagnosed with Stage-4 Pancreatic Cancer. This campaign is an effort by loved ones to ease the inevitable financial burdens that follow such a life-altering event. Funds contributed will be used for medical expenses, day-to-day care, and coverage of Juan and his wife’s living expenses, as they are not currently working due to his inpatient status at the hospital.
DETAILS:
In late 2017, Juan began to lose a significant amount of weight. As he is diabetic, his doctor initially thought it was a positive change and told him to keep it up. However, after continued months of rapid weight loss and a misdiagnosis at the beginning of the year, his family suspected that something was wrong. On March 2, 2018, at the behest of his children, Juan underwent an urgent scan at a hospital. With his wife, Ana, by his side, Juan waited to receive the results of numerous exams that were given throughout the night. Juan was diagnosed with Stage-4 Pancreatic Cancer that had metastasized to his liver, lungs, and bones - and has been fighting like hell since.
Juan is currently receiving radiation and chemotherapy, along with various other medications to treat the cancer and diabetes at the hospital. The illness is taking its toll on him, and so are the treatments. He is exhausted and the medications influence his mindfulness throughout the day. Ana tirelessly supports Juan day-in and day-out. Their children, Tati (along with her husband Carlos and two young children), Juan Jr., and Michi, visit every day after work and have sleepovers as often as possible. They are fighting to care for Juan around the clock and organize his care as best possible, but they need help.
The Theurer family is facing many unknown factors as they navigate this inconceivable and painful experience. Every day, there is new information to take in as the fight pulls them in new directions. It is uncertain what the next steps in treatment will be, how various treatments might affect Juan and his abilities, how long his current hospital stay will be, or even how much time they have together as a family.
One thing that they should not have to face is the uncertainty of how they will manage the financial expenses of keeping this fight going for as long as it takes.
