Fighting for a better heart

Alex is six years old, he should be starting 1st grade today, but he's here at the Morgan Stanley Presbyterian Children's Hospital at Columbia University. At first we were told it was just a stomach virus and his pediatrician told us he was fine, but he kept vomiting and just laying around. Not his usual self at all. 2 days later, after a 2nd doctor visit and EKG's and X-rays, they were telling us to get him to the hospital. And 6 hours after that a cardiac specialist at Stony Brook was informing us that Alex was having heart failure, and would be to be transferred to Columbia to be with doctors that could help him.
We feared the worst, but after a few days here, he is stabilized; and while his heart is only pumping at around 1/6 of where it should be, his other organs are responding well to medication and it seems he's out of immediate danger. Alex is still in Cardiac ICU, but he's alert and feisty and wants to know when hes going home.

My name is Ingrid, I'm his mom, and I want my son to have the life, while we are here our financial situation is getting hard, asking for help is not easy is the most difficult thing to do but in moments like this all support from friends, family and anyone who knows what is like to have a love one in the hospital is  greatly appreciate.

We are so thankful that Alex is fighting and medication is helping, he is still in ICU and I am afraid to leave him.  Not working means bills are piling and if I'm not thinking about Alex, I'm thinking about how we are ever going to catch up financially.  Any and all donations will go to paying hospital and monthly bills, plus anything else Alex might need.  If you can't donate please take time to share our story and perhaps just wish Alex well on his road to recovery.

Alex tiene seis años, debería comenzar el 1. ° grado hoy, pero está aquí en el Morgan Stanley Presbyterian Children's Hospital en la Universidad de Columbia. Al principio nos dijeron que era solo un virus estomacal y su pediatra nos dijo que estaba bien, pero él siguió vomitando y simplemente acostado,asi no es el habitualmente en absoluto. 2 días más tarde, después de una segunda visita al médico y electrocardiogramas y radiografías, nos dijeron que lo lleváramos al hospital. Y 6 horas después, un especialista cardíaco de Stony Brook nos informó que Alex tenía insuficiencia cardíaca y que sería transferido a Columbia para estar con doctores que podrían ayudarlo.
Temíamos lo peor, pero después de unos días aquí, él se estabiliza; y mientras su corazón bombea alrededor de 1/6 de lo que debería ser, sus otros órganos responden bien a la medicación y parece que está fuera de peligro inmediato. Alex todavía está en la Unidad de Cuidados Cardíacos, pero está alerta y luchadondo y quiere saber cuándo irá a casa.

Mi nombre es Ingrid, y soy su mama, y quiero que mi hijo tenga la vida que merece, mientras estamos aquí nuestra situación financiera es cada vez más difícil, pedir ayuda no es fácil es lo más difícil de hacer, pero en momentos como este todo el apoyo de amigos, familiares y cualquier persona que sepa lo que es tener un hijo en el hospital sera de mucho  aprecio e infinita  ayuda

Estamos muy agradecidos de que Alex esté peleando y que los medicamentos esté ayudando, él todavía está en la UCI y tengo miedo de dejarlo solo. No trabajar significa que las cuentas se acumulan y si no estoy pensando en Alex, estoy pensando en cómo vamos a recuperarnos financieramente. Todas y cada una de las donaciones se destinarán a pagar las facturas mensuales y del hospital, además de cualquier otra cosa que Alex pueda necesitar. Si no puede donar, tómese el tiempo para compartir nuestra historia y tal vez desearle a Alex un buen camino hacia la recuperación.
