Faces of the Homeless Fund

Faces of the Homeless is a project that I started back in July 2012.  It began as a blog where I posted photographs I'd taken of the homeless people I met in Nashville, TN, where I was visiting, and shared their stories to bring awareness of homelessness to the public and move them to befriend and help the homeless.  As time went on, I got in contact with some other folks back in Indiana where I live and joined them in visiting the homeless in Indianapolis on a weekly basis.  We bring them a hot meal and provide them supplies that they need for their 24/7 outdoor survival.

What started as just one-time gift of a supply of surplus batteries from my home led to me buying more batteries to give my homeless friends, and I've become known as the "Battery Lady" as the word spread among the homeless folks that I'm the one who brings them batteries for their flashlights, radios, and lanterns.  Fortunately, I have been able to buy the batteries cheaply at Dollar Tree.   But even at that low price, the spending that started at about $100 per month is now reaching toward $200 per month.  The financial expense is growing beyond what my family budget can support.

Besides batteries, I'm also collecting clothing, sundries, and other supplies that the homeless folks need.  But not everyone has supplies to donate, and sometimes they need something specific that hasn't been donated, so I've been purchasing items on my own to meet those needs too.  This project has now grown too large for me to afford on my own, so I'm now asking others to join me in this effort.

Thank you for your kindness and generosity!
