Savannah Smiles

The Donleys are great friends of ours, and if you know them, you know what wonderful people they are and how giving they are to others. Their daughter Savannah recently has experienced some tremendous medical costs related to health issues. While we are so glad Savannah is finally home from the hospital, we would like to help out Michelle and Trent with some of their medical costs, and we're hoping you can help too.

Savannah's Story
Savannah, the Donleys' 22-year old daughter, was admitted to the hospital in May of this year with acute pneumonia with complications. It has been an extremely rough journey for her and her family, as she has needed a tracheotomy and has been on a ventilator. Savannah is such a fighter and she has endured several months of feeding tube issues, tests, occasional seizures, fevers, excess fluid in her lungs, bed sores, and respiratory distress, as well as the pain and fear that accompanies such a long stay in the hospital.

After 24 days in the ICU at St. Joseph's Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, Savannah was transferred to Dekalb Medical Center LTAC in Decatur, Georgia  for long-term acute care.  She stayed there for another six weeks with the goal of weaning her off the ventilator and her trach tube.  While this has not yet happened, Savannah finally came home on July 31 after spending 78 days in the hospital.  Her family is so blessed and happy to have her home, and Michelle, Trent, Payton, Sam, and Jacob have surrounded her with love and are hopeful that with more rehab, Savannah will eventually be free of the ventilator and the trach so that she can get back to the things she loves, especially swimming and taking long baths.

Anyone who knows Savannah knows that she is a fierce "diva" warrior in little body!  Her smiles light up the room around her, and we are all ready for her to get back to her old self.  Obviously, these months have been filled with ups and downs, good days and bad days.  Through it all, the Donleys have relied on God and on His provision for their family, and He has carried them through.

How You Can Help
As she works towards getting off her ventilator and breathing on her own, Savannah is undergoing a lot of therapy, including speech, physical, and occupational therapy to increase her level of activity.   Her family has had to undergo training to learn how to care for the ventilator and the trach and how to handle home-health equipment and supplies Savannah needs.

Donate.  We would greatly appreciate any financial assistance you can provide.  Trent and Michelle have taken leaves of absence from work for 13 weeks to care for Savannah.  They have both immediate and long term care needs;  immediate needs are covering the co-pays and out-of-pocket costs of a 78-day ICU hospital stay.  Long-term needs of skilled nursing will allow them to evolve beyond their current "tag-team" life when one parent must be present at all time, where even a few minutes away means that they could miss an episode of Savannah being in duress.  Savannah's medical bills now total more than $750,000, much of which is not covered by insurance, and out-of-pocket expenses total more than $5,000 per month.  We would like to offset their expenses as much as possible so they can simply focus on their family, move toward an ideal skilled-nursing home situation, and see more of Savannah smiles.

Pray.  Please cover Savannah, Michelle, Trent, Payton, Sam, and Jacob in prayer as they navigate this journey of Savannah's healing.  As her mom, Michelle, says, "She is a child of God, and labels and boundaries cannot change who He created her to be.  She was put on this earth for a purpose, and she is not finished.  She has work to do, smiles to share, joy to spread, and love to promote.  Please pray that she continues to move forward."

"But I will restore you to health and heal your wounds," declares the LORD.
