“Even in the deepest suffering, there is significance. There is a meaningful process of positive possibilities. We have to recover the language of humanity. We cannot understand suffering without it... there's this struggle in life in every class of people... it's what we do with it that matters”  --Dr. William B. Hurlbut M.D., “The Human Experience”

What is the meaning of life?  What are we doing as human beings to contribute goodness in a world of narcissism, political conflict and war, and poverty?  Last year, I watched a documentary called “The Human Experience”.  It is a story of two brothers travelling the world and putting themselves in mind-opening places and experiences.  It was a spiritual awakening for themselves to see the resilience and positive spirits of human beings living in really harsh environments.
Hi everyone!  My name is Trang Nguyen.  As a pediatric nurse, I’ve always wanted to utilize my skills internationally.  I went back to school to be a pediatric nurse practitioner in hopes to one day lay a foundation for a clinic abroad.  It was that documentary that reinforced my idea to make it a goal.

One of the places they visited is called Hogar San Francisco de Asís (Home of St. Francis of Assisi), home of the destitute and sick children of Chaclacayo, Peru.
The home has been up and running for 20+ years and solely dependent on donations. Dr. Anthony Lazzara is the founder of the home/clinic, which houses at least 50 children all-ranging in different types of medical conditions such as:  malnutrition, leukemia, cerebral palsy, congenital heart diseases, malformations of the body, malignant tumors, etc.

The money raised in this fundraiser, goes towards the healthcare needs, medical supplies, and nutrients for the children.  Any amount of contribution you make will help further the children’s quality of life and help sustain this home in  Peru.  The money raised will not go towards my travels, it is only for the home/clinic.

My objectives of the volunteer trip are:

1. To utilize my nursing skills to help target their health goals
2. Improve their quality of life
3. Provide health education to staff, community, and children
4. And basically learn!

My journey will be Jan 11-24, 2015.  I will document my journey via Facebook and Instagram using #chaclacayochildren.

Thank you so much for your time and support.  Your contribution will mean 10,000 smiles to the kids in this community and like Buddha said:  “A generous heart, kind speech, life of service and compassion are the things that renew humanity.”

An awesome video to get a better understanding of the home:
Testimonial from one of the volunteers via http://www.villalapazfoundation.org/ :

“The whole operation is dependent on donations and help from volunteers. And believe me, there isn’t a penny wasted. Try feeding 58 kids three meals a day for $300 a week.”

“Two other things we learned: We got back a heck of a lot more than we gave during those two weeks. And, most of us don’t have any real problems.”
