Raising money for Teenage Cancer Trust

Hi everyone! My name is Ikram.
Just as I turned 18 I got diagnosed with stage 2a bulky Hodgkin Lymphoma cancer.
This is a blood cancer which affects your lymph nodes and makes the white blood cells unresponsive. White blood cells are part of the body's immune system and help fight off infection and other diseases, for example the common cold you would get in the winter season.
Having to go through this during Covid was difficult and did not make my journey easy at all. However with the help and support from my family and friends as well as my medical team, I've finally overcome these 8 hard months.
The treatment I received in order to get better was chemotherapy. Chemotherapy uses one or more (I had 4) anti-cancer drugs as part of a regimen which kill all cells, including healthy cells in order to get rid of the cancerous ones.
One key symptom I experienced during chemotherapy was hair loss. Even though many might think it is very physical, it also had a huge impact on my mental health. Seeing my hair shed and come out in clumps really took a hit to my self-confidence and it took me months and months to slowly gain it back which was the most difficult process.
Some other symptoms I experienced during chemo were:
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Sleep deprivation
- Bone and muscle aches
- Lack of appetite
- Fluctuation in weight
- Chest pains
- Difficulty breathing
And definitely some FOMO!
This battle with cancer has changed me as a person, which is why I have decided to start raising more awareness for teenagers who are going through the same and I would love it if you could support me.
The charity of my choice is Teenage Cancer Trust. This organisation creates a world class cancer services for young people in the UK, providing life-changing care and support so young people don't have to face cancer alone just like me.
For this reason I'm asking you to share and donate as much or little as you can as every little helps (As Tesco's would say).
Fair to say that chemo did not affect my humor!
