Hayley and I have known each other almost 10 years! We met through the blogs when we were adopting our children from China. Hayley's not the type to ask for help - so I took it upon myself to ask the community of friends and family, adoptive parents, and anyone who can help to pitch in. Hayley is the person who is always helping, she the one that knows everyone's needs - a wheelchair for this family, helping another family stay in their house and pay bills, etc. now it's our time to help her.
As the mom of a child with overwhelming medical needs and cost - I know what it's like. Her is what Hayley told me:
"We've exhausted every single financial option, maxed out credit cards, line of credit, cashed in retirement, borrowed, sold stuff. I worked out that it would take me TWO years of earnings in my part time Nanny job to pay for one year of our medical deductible/OOP. I can only work the hours when the girls are at school, it took me years to find a job that fit with that schedule."
The reason she can only work when the girls are in school is because she has to drive about 60 miles (one way) to a clinic that works with her daughter's unique Touretts & PTSD diagnose. She does this 4 days a week.
