Car Accident Devastates Family

It is with great shock, but even greater gratitude for their survival, that the co-worker family at Total Education Solutions (TES) and The Institute for the Redesign of Learning (IRL) asks your support in helping one of our own, LoLesia M. and her family (her 10 year-old daughter and life partner) who were gravely injured in a terrible 1-car accident on August 23, 2018. On their way to work last Thursday, this loving family was driving on Emma Mountain Highway in Angeles National Forest when they lost control of their car, went over the embankment of the mountain highway, and plunged 100 feet, rolling over several times.  

Amazingly, LoLesia was able to crawl out of the vehicle, disregarding her injuries, and climb up 100 feet of rocky terrain in order to get help from passers-by. Lo’s daughter, Shay, and her partner, Tiffany, were trapped in the car and fire crews were able to rescue them so they could be airlifted to two local hospitals where they are still being treated for injuries and trauma. Shay is currently being looked after for her broken pelvis, dislocated hip and partially collapsed lung, while Tiffany is still receiving treatment in the ICU for a fractured neck, multiple fractures and breaks in her leg and feet, and other complications from back injuries. LoLesia is still receiving treatment in ICU for her own injuries 5 days later, as of the writing of this appeal for financial assistance to help cover their considerable medical bills. While we don’t have a full estimate of hospital costs as yet, According to the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) an average cost for one air ambulance flight is between $12,000 and $25,000 per person. So at a minimum, this family is looking at a $36,000 medical bill solely for airlift transport, not including current stays for multiple people in the ICU, and the related costs to treatment- and the long road ahead with physical therapy for both Tiffany and Shay.

LoLesia has worked for Total Education Solution/IRL for almost 18 years.  During her time here,  we can honestly say that she has been one of the most dependable, upbeat coworkers we have ever had.  Her dedication and loyalty to her job is to be admired, and we truly appreciate and respect everything she represents for this company that serves the disabled community. If you are able at this time, any financial assistance you could give to help lift the burden of this life-threatening experience would truly be appreciated, not just by Lo and her family, but by those who genuinely love her, including her work family.
