As I write this post, my family and I are balancing around the halfway point between when my dad unexpectedly lost his life (8/24/14) and when he would have celebrated his 43rd birthday (10/24/14). As a birthday present we'd like to get him a headstone so he can rest peacefully and be properly memorialized. The cost of such a thing is a tremendous amount for a working class family, especially after such a sudden and unexpected tragic loss.
