Paws for Pittsboro Police

Donation protected
The Pittsboro Police Department has added a new member to their police department-meet Zara, a 17 month old German Shepherd! She completed her training and started service on November 1, 2021. The PD also plans to add another K9 to the force in Spring 2022. This was made possible by both grants and personal donations, and it is great news for our community.

K9 units serve many valuable purposes, including:

• Tracking to find lost/endangered missing children and adults
• Detecting illegal drugs
• Enhancing public relations between the police and the community
• Serving as a highly visible deterrent to criminal activity
• Completing building searches 7 TIMES faster than a team of four officers alone

Paws for Pittsboro Police was formed to assist the police in raising the funds needed to care for and support these dogs, including food, veterinary bills, and necessary equipment. Many surrounding communities follow a similar model of community donations and funding to support the K9 related expenses.

Thank you for your support and generosity! Pittsboro is a great community that can do amazing things together!
