Scott Sulzer, a/k/a the amazing sandwichboy, is in a bit of a pickle – and this one is not on the side.
We all know Scott as a hard-working, industrious, upstanding man who has reinvented himself many times over and solely built two successful businesses known as The Sandwich Joint, first in Hermosa Beach and then in downtown Los Angeles, that has fed surfer and litigator alike.
And he is hitting a rough patch due to a major health challenge.
Scotty would rather be making you lunch, then going to play in his regular hockey game, but this kid needs a new heart valve. Now.
A fluke, bacterial infection that invades the inner lining of the heart gave him Endocarditis. The truth is, many die from it. But in Scott’s case, it has “only” destroyed one of his heart valves.
Thankfully, it can be replaced by a mechanical one of miraculous modern medicine during a four-hour, open-heart surgery. It will happen on Tuesday, September 30, 2014.
The upside is a future filled with turkey and cheese and that divine vinaigrette on a crusty French roll for all. And Scott can get his life back, with his beloved tennis, travel and those wacky lamentations we all adore on the state and purpose of existence.
The downside is closing The Sandwich Joint for two or three months. That means once he gets out of the hospital and faces the challenges of recuperation from this beast of an affliction, he has a pretty big nut to pay. Things like store overhead, medical bills, and living expenses. All without having a regular income.
So he needs a little help.
We, his close friends and family, are turning to the social network to help give him peace of mind. Then his heart, and soul, can thrive for many years to come.
Our goal is to raise $15,000. Please give whatever amount you can.
