Semen Gondar Forced Displacement Victims

Dear friends and family, I want to thank you in advance for your support in the movement to provide lasting solution to victims of forced displacement in the Semen Gondar - Debark Woreda- Region.

I recently visited Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) sheltered at Millennium primary school in Debark, Ethiopia. The scene of famished children, weeping mothers, enfeebled elderlies, and overall blameless people in crisis neglected and in despair was heart-wrenching.

In the small town of Debark alone, there are more than 46,000 IDPs displaced by the recent fighting. Currently, in the Amhara regions alone, over 1.5 million people are facing emergency levels of hunger. On top of this devastating reality, humanitarian organizations are not reaching the people in this emergency state. IDPs feeling for asylum are increasing in numbers, and unfortunately, these numbers are underestimated and undercovered.

The IDPs are not just facing emergency hunger, they are experiencing trauma. They fled their homes to escape the conflict and persecution. Their homes have been looted and destroyed. At the shelter, what I saw was the extremity of the devastation the people were undergoing. They were famished, medically neglected, hypervigilant, mournful, living in ill-suited conditions, and highly vulnerable to other health and safety threats.

I had a personal experience in this region, and this is where I am looking to make a difference. My goal is to support those needing emergency medical treatment and vulnerable IDPs: pregnant women, women who just gave birth, the elderlies, the physically disabled, and re-settle them back into their homes, located in the areas that are liberated. The donation will be used to purchase food, water, and essential housing supplies such as sleeping mattresses, blankets, and cooking pieces of equipment.

We may not be able to help everyone at once, but I believe you and I are the solutions to the humanitarian problems our people are currently facing.
