I am running 26.2 miles in and around Washington D.C. and Virginia on October 26, 2014. The goal is bigger than just to finish, or beat a time.  I'm running this year's race with another purpose of raising funds for the Josh Thibodeau Helping Hearts Foundation.  This foundation is named in honor of my cousin Josh who collapsed and died on a soccer field due to hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.  The foundation's goal is to raise awareness of the condition that takes children from their families at an alarmingly sad rate.  They do this by; 1) providing heart screenings to youth in their community. 2) providing families of at risk youth an AED at no cost to the family. 3) training local coaches and people in the community on how to do CPR and use an AED.

Deb and Ralph Thibodeau are rock stars and are making a serious impact in the lives of the people around them.  It's my pleasure to help them continue in their quest to use their personal suffering to help others not have to go through what they did.  The $1,500 goal is roughly enough to buy an AED for the foundation to give to someone who needs it.

Oh, and if I reach my goal by the race date, I will be running the enitre 26.2 miles in a hat with moose antlers on it :).
