Jen and her husband and two sons have devoted their time, their home, their love and support to a cat rescue out of their family home. She loves all these “fur babies” with all her heart. Jen is a nurse at Soulthlake and still finds time for every kitten that needs 2 hour feedings, cuddles and vet care for each cat. Jen and her family pay all vet bills out of their own pocket. All the food, including formula for the kittens that are brought to the sanctuary malnourished are paid for by Jen. She does so much good for these animals and it would be nice to have a fund she can use for spay, neutering and sadly she needs to pay for surgical procedures. Like the recent kitten fosters that we’re found in -14 degree weather and now need parts of their tails amputated. Jen has never asked for help and is just full of love. Let’s pull together to help her gracious family with the financial burden. She is currently dealing with the 2 kittens that need part of their tails amputated, cost of surgery is around $1000.00 and 2 cats that came to the sanctuary as kittens but Jen soon found they suffer from a neurological disease which she buys the medicine to help them on an ongoing basis. Our newest addition, Noelle, is doing fairly well. She is timid and unsure. Very thin and small for her age. (She's fluffy so she doesn't look it in the pictures). I believe with regular feedings and lots of love she will be just fine.
Our two brothers are another story. At our appt last night, our vet confirmed what we already suspected. Both kittens will require partial tail amputations due to frostbite. Neither of them are strong enough at this point to safely have this surgery so we must wait until the put on some weight. They too have been severely malnourished and are very much underweight. They both have started showing signs of frostbite damage to their paws, (their pads were all black when they arrived, but as you can see in the picture, the black is peeling off) which is something we also expected. The bigger brother has a heart murmur as well which we are keeping an eye on and the smaller brother has some GI upset which we are also treating.
Because of this, our doors are now closed to new fosters as we are currently overwhelmed physically and financially with these 3, as well as our other sick girls Nebs and Snow.
I'd like to take a moment to also clear up some possible misperceptions that this is a business for us. It is very much not. We pay out of pocket for everything which is why we are always so grateful for donations of supplies, etc. We never even remotely recoup the cost of caring for and vetting these cats. Especially the sick ones. Hundreds of dollars are spent per foster in food, formula, vetting, etc. (It is the same for most foster based rescues). We do this because it feels like the right thing to do. There are so few fosters and rescues and shelters are overwhelmed with cats and kittens. And often shelters do not have the resources to care for kittens that require 24 hour care so they use fosters as well. So we help because we can. Especially in emergency situations like with these last 3 babies. This is a 24 hour job and we both have other jobs to go to (so we can afford this, lol) so we do the best we can which is why I may not respond to your messages right away.
We put our heart and soul into loving every one of our fosters and are willing to do whatever is necessary to ensure they are given a chance at life. To grow happy and healthy and to find fabulous forever families.
Please know that if you have found a cat or kitten in need I am more than happy to help you find an appropriate safe place. Just PM anytime. And please, please, please, SPAY AND NEUTER YOUR CATS.
