Recently I found out I have something called idiopathic intracranial hypertension or pseudotumor cerebri. These big long words pretty much mean that I have spinal fluid pulling a Queen/Bowie and putting pressure on my optic nerve and surrounding areas.
There's no actual cure, but there are treatments. I've undergone several tests already (extensive eye exam, cat scan, MRI) but I've got several ahead of me, possibly including a lumbar puncture. The tests so far have just been to determine that it is, in fact, idiopathic intracranial hypertension.
I'll have short term disability leave, which will give me my normal pay! That's great, but theres two problems - due to medical issues I've missed days before going on leave, and I have a whole unpaid week before that stuff starts. Not to mention getting tests done is a wee bit more expensive than my normal budget allows for.
The $800 goal is to cover medical costs past what my flexible account and insurance will pay for, tests to have done, medicines to take, transportation and related things. It'd also help me cover things like rent and related bills if things go tits up. It could go that I need more or less - and even if I do, and this whole fundraising thing doesn't work out - life, uh, finds a way. I'm still standing at the beginning of all this, really, so a lot of what's going to happen is still in the dark. But, this would create a nice coushion so that I don't have to panic about paying for something.
