Hi! I’m Mike Cox
On my 36th birthday last month, rather than celebrating with loved ones, I found myself on an emergency room operating table with what I thought was a simple appendicitis attack. What doctors would find during the surgery would be later revealed and change the trajectory of my life and families forever. Cancer.
After attending a multitude of appointments with various specialists and an Oncologist, I was found to have a rare type of tumor called Goblet Cell Carcinoid- less than 100 cases reported in the entire United States per year. This tumor often grows unnoticed, until an emergency appendectomy is needed.
Recent scans and medical visits have deemed that the cancer is late stage 3 early stage 4, and has reached my colon, liver, small intestine, and possibly right side kidney, and my path of treatment includes 3 months of intense, 3 day chemotherapy sessions bi-weekly, a surgery after the first round of chemotherapy to remove the things listed above and then another 3 months of chemo after the surgery.
The battle is far from over, but I’m ready, I’m hopeful. During my time as Marine Corps Infantryman I danced with death in the lowest of places, but death isn’t what I’m afraid of-my kids and wife living without me is what tears my heart in two.
Please find it in your heart to help so that I may spend the necessary time at home focusing on my treatment and healing, and continuing to build those precious memories, I recently got married to Meghan , and have big plans for my blended family.
My dedication to what is important in is life is unrivaled, and I will continue day in and day out because it’s not over yet.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart, on behalf of my family for prayers, positive vibes, donations. It means more to us than you know. We will get through this.
Semper fi!
