Raising money for Pharmacy School

In a world filled with so many blessings and opportunities, we are all chosen to play very special roles in the lives of others. The tragic earthquake that hit Haiti in 2010  which generated massive devastation causing people to die of cholera, malaria, and dysentery validated to me that my purpose is to help others through the science of medicine and promote healing as a pharmacist.

I am Samuel Marcillon from the island country of Haiti, a land of great beauty, tragedy, and corruption. Growing up in Haiti was difficult, and there were few opportunities for a good education or job. As a result, I immigrated to the United States in 2012 to pursue my education and career goals given that the education and job opportunities in the U.S. are significantly more abundant than in Haiti. The transition to the U.S. was more difficult than I anticipated since I did not speak English. However, through hard-work and determination, I did all I could to quickly become proficient in English and ensure success in my new environment.

I currently attend Indian River State College where I have maintained a 3.91 Academic GPA while simultaneously working two jobs to afford the costs of attending College. In the fall of 2018, I will transfer and continue my studies in the pharmacy program at the University of Florida. Some of my academic achievements and accomplishments include achieving recognition on the Dean’s List numerous times, graduating and earning an Associate’s Degree with highest honor in 2015, I am an alumni member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society which is the world's largest and most prestigious honor society for two-year college students. Additionally, I was nominated as student of the month in November 2016. I served as Vice President for the Science Club and volunteered at the Indian River Medical Center Hospital in Vero Beach to gain hands on medical experience. During my coursework, I had the opportunity to complete an internship with the Dolphin Communication Project whose mission is to promote the scientific study of dolphins and inspire their conservation.
My acceptance to the University of Florida College of Pharmacy is a great privilege, and I cannot afford to lose such an opportunity because of financial deficiency. For this reason, I am asking for your financial support to raise $152,200. My expenses for tuition, books, room & board, amount to $23,000, $4,000 and $11,000 respectively per year. This totals to $38,000 per year and subsequently $152,200 for all four years that it will take to complete the Pharmacy Program. July 23rd is when the amount of $23,000 is due for the 2018/2019 school year.

With your generous financial support, you will help me make my dream of becoming a pharmacist a reality. Once I become a pharmacist, I plan to participate in research that will aid in developing new drugs to help people with diseases such as diabetes, cancer and other medical disorders. Donations can be made through checks, cash, and via GoFundMe.com(gofundme.com/ezhy2-raising-money-for-pharmacy-school). I am very appreciative for your willingness to help me achieve my life mission of helping others through studying the science of medicine. Any amount donated is appreciated and will help me get closer to achieving my goal.

Sincerely,
Samuel Marcillon
