Leyland's Medical Trip to Texas

Donation protected
Hello, from Charleston!!
As most of you know, Leyland was born with a rare condition called Gastroschisis. Which means he was born with his intestines on the outside of his body. He has endured many hospitilizations, what seems to be endless procedures, and so far, 3 major surgeries to repair these intestines in only his first 8 years of life. He is truly our little fighting miracle and my personal hero!! So, as his parents and his best advocates, we are doing everything we can to see that he gets the best possible care concerning his current circumstances.
Over this past year and a half, Leyland has been experiencing excessive amounts of diarrhea which has lead to the loss of extremely important electrolytes that his body needs to function properly. This has put him in the hospital here twice this past summer:( The doctors here have put him on 3 different diets, immodium, cornstarch, MCT oil to help him gain weight, fiber, and loads of different vitamins to take multiple times a day and have arrived to the conclusion that he has a leaky gut and cannot process fats. They also do not have a plan set for Leyland, nor have they ever- so, we opted for a second opinion here in Charleston. This G.I. doctor had great concern for Leyland and after looking at him thoroughly and doing an ultrasound, suggested that he will more than likely need another scar tissue repair surgery and that his intestines are severely restricted. Unfortunately, he is a small practice doctor and doesnt feel comfortable taking on a case of this magnitude and suggested we return to Texas where Leyland has had all of his prior surgeries. Also, where we would have all the family and friend support needed to get him through this!! We strongly agree!! It makes so much more sense to be in a place where we have no doubt that he is getting the best medical care possible, so this brings us to this point......
We are needing a little help to get to Texas for Leyland. The only appointment we can make at this time, is set for Dec 30th of this year. Our insurance will authorize one, out of network (bc we live in south carolina) appt with his original gastroenterologist, Dr. Reid who works at Texas Children's Hospital in Houston. Once Leyland has seen her, and she consults with his surgeon,we will finally have a plan that we have so desperately needed for over a year!! We are so excited!! Unfortunately, being a family of 5, with only one income at this time, a time following Christmas 1700 miles away, isnt going to be financially easy for us, (as we usually visit after income tax time.)We have already explained to the boys to not expect much for gifts this year because we need to save to get to Texas for Leyland, and even though they can be bratty at times... they both said; "We know, but we will get to be in Texas with our family instead!"

With that being said, even if you can not donate, please keep Leyland in your prayers as he continues to struggle at the moment physically and emotionally with his digestive issues. We know that the Lord above is watching over him and all of us, and that Leyland will continue to rise above these hurdles because of how brave and strong he truly is... he is an amazing gastro-warrior and we are so grateful for this new opportunity for a better life for him!!
Thank you all so very much!!
God Bless~
