Eye Surgeries For Jamie

Donation protected

This January Jamie was hospitalized with sepsis and necrotizing fasciitis, due to a complication from a diabetic ulcer. He almost lost his leg and his life.
During that 10 days in the hospital he noticed a change in his vision, to the point that his glasses would not even help. We were finally able to get an eye exam approved by our insurance last month. The exam revealed that at some point had a mild stroke that the doctors did not catch. This caused the blood vessels in his eyes to burst and start bleeding. If not treated right away, he would lose his vision permanently.
In Jamie's case, it is something that can be treated with a series of six needle surgeries, three in each eye over the course of three months. With the hopes that his vision will improve, and not get any worse. This was great news, but dashed by our insurance only covering the surgeries partially. Our out of pocket expense is $8,100. I know, and so does Jamie that it needs to be done. he is terrified of needles, but even more so that if it is not done, he will lose what is left of his vision.
Now here is the hard part...
We don't know what else to do, other than start with a fundraiser. We would offer rewards for donations but Jamie is unable to draw right now. It broke my heart to watch him defeated at his last attempt at his drawing table last week, trying his best to see with two pairs of glasses on, only to finally turn off the light and roll his wheelchair away from his table. Any help you can offer would mean the world to us. Thank you all for your support -Erin
