Eye Surgery For Four Kittens

Donation protected
Four kittens found in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma need our help. Today they are six weeks old and two of them are permanently blind, one has such a poorly developed eye, it must be removed to prevent further complications and all four have eye birth defects that require medical intervention.

The condition, known as eyelid agenesis, is a relatively rare genetic defect that can cause lifelong problems and discomfort if not corrected. The eyes can't close properly. Hair and other debris that rub the cornea bring constant pain and irritation, potentially leading to ulceration. Eyes that can’t blink may be inadequately lubricated. The correction is a surgical procedure to construct eyelids using tissue from the upper lip. And our very own veterinary ophthalmologist (Dr. Carmen Colitz) has generously offered to do this surgery on all four babies for minimal fee. But I need to raise the funds - correction -  we need to raise the funds. I cannot do this alone. I am hoping to raise $2500 for their surgeries and pre-post op care. We have two and a half months’ time to raise these funds, I hope this is enough time.  Their care leading up to the surgery is minimal. They need only lubricating eye drops to be administered twice daily. After surgery care will involve making sure everything heals cleanly.

One might wonder about putting significant resources into these kittens when so many healthy ones are euthanized at shelters due to overpopulation. My answer? I'm here to do the right thing for the individuals that cross my path.

These babies will also need good families who will commit to caring for them the rest of their lives. We will be screening inquiries for adopters for these tykes beginning next month.

These kittens are under the guardianship of Furry Friends Adoption, Clinic & Ranch in Jupiter, FL.   The surgery will be performed by Dr. Colitz of All Animal Eye Care in Jupiter Pet Emergency & Specialty Center.

Your donation warms my soul and lubricates my eyeballs. Eventually it will lubricate all of these babies  eyes too!

I am asking that donations be made here so we can be sure the funds donated go to the kittens surgery.  Sponsors will be kept abreast of the kittens journey every step of the way including their happy ever after when they are finally adopted into purrfect homes.

***If we exceed our goal, the funds will also go to cover they spay/neuter surgeries to be done at the same time so they do not need be subjected to two separate surgeries in their short little lives.
