Douglas is 15 and needs an eye prosthesis ASAP.
Wendy Orellana is my friend.
She lives in San Miguel, El Salvador with her two sons.
She works for the City of San Miguel and makes the minimum salary in the amount of US$200 a month.
Douglas's father makes US$450. He was able to get a loan but it does not cover all the expenses.
Douglas is 15 years of age and has had an eye prosthesis since 2006.
Playing with his younger brother, he was hit in the eye and has not been able to wear his prosthesis for a few weeks. The eye prosthesis he used to wear is no longer a good fit.
Douglas was due to change his prosthesis in 2016 but he has not done so due to the lack of resources.
I spoke with Douglas once. He is an energetic and smart teen. He misses his eye. He is not asking for the impossible, he just wants his "artificial" eye back. His eye makes him whole.
Wendy and Douglas will have to travel, by land, to Nicaragua since the doctors are no longer traveling to San Salvador.
These prostheses are specialized and made in 5 appointments, one per day.
Its price is US$1,000 since these prosthesis prevent severe pain, bleeding and less secretion that all patients suffer with normal prostheses and without mobility.
These prostheses are aesthetically perfect with visibility of movement and Douglas needs this prosthesis in an emergency basis because due to lack of use in a month the strength of the thigh of the eyelid has declined and it tends to close if you wait longer.
The money will be used to pay for:
1. Transportation to get to Managua and back US$655
2. Hotel stay for seven days US$350
3. Food for seven days US$300
4. Medical expenditures US$1,000

In my trips, I have met entrepreneurs, college students, alumni and others.

"Ojos Artificiales Iglesias" is the name of the doctor's office.
