OVERVIEW:

EYE MAMA PROJECT: THE "MAMA GAZE" is a global photography portfolio, launched on Instagram in 2021, capturing the truths and dualities of motherhood and caregiving. It offers an intimate, diverse, and inclusive portrayal of both the light and dark sides of motherhood, highlighting personal stories such as IVF, abortion, miscarriage, single parenting, adoption, and fostering. With over 70,000 submissions from 60+ countries, the project includes an open call, a jury, and the EYE MAMA BOOK. Founded by Karni Arieli, BAFTA-nominated filmmaker photographer and mama based in Uk.

Eye mama has been featured in many publications including Vogue, National Geographic, Wsj, The Guardian and more. It has won several awards, including the Anthem Lovie and Webby Awards, for social diversity and inclusion, and the Lucie Photo Book Award 2024.

Why Support Us?

- We give photographer mamas visibility, helping them feel seen.

- We make care visible. and have created a strong art community.

- This portfolio must be preserved for future generations, but without support, the work cannot continue.

- Empowering others through visual truth is crucial—we can’t empower the invisible. Mamas and carers need help . Mental health support, a village, paid leave, childcare, safe labour, body rights and more.

- We aim to preserve the "Mama gaze" portfolio by creating an independent, uncensored archive of motherhood photography—unrestricted by Instagram or other platforms.

- With 70k images from over 60 countries by mama photographers, we’re holding another open call to expand the collection.

- We’ll share more work from photographers and showcase all long lists from open calls for greater visibility.

- With support, we can expand visibility through exhibitions, PR, talks, articles, and more. We are at a junction and need a team asap to hold and preserve this important collective work.

What We Need to Do!

- Build a permanent website and ONLINE ARCHIVE for the collection.(free from Instagram's censorship.)

- Hire a SMALL TEAM of women to manage the platform, archive, Instagram community, and communications.

- Launch a SECOND OPEN CALL, hire a jury, create exhibitions, and possibly a second book.

- AMPLIFY VISIBILITY through talks, PR, articles, and newsletters.

- CONTINUE CURATING AND SHARING work both online and offline. And growing community via instagram .
