Expenses for Stem Cell Transplant at Mayo Clinic

Hi, My name is Jaclyn 'April' Harrison-Smith. I'm raising money for my husband Jason Smith and the expenses related to stem cell transplant. The last few years have been tumultuous to say the least....my husband became sick in the fall of 2018. No doctors we seen could diagnose him. After multiple hospital stays, multiple doctor opinions, and finally a trip to the mayo clinic he was diagnosed, in April of this year (2021), with a very rare blood cancer called Myelodysplastic syndrome from the leukemia family.

A stem cell transplant is our only hope as it is terminal without it. The funds will be used for lodging, food, and travel expenses associated with the transplant as well as maintaining the household bills to keep our home running. Doctors at the Mayo clinic have told us to be prepared to live in Minnesota for 3 to 6 months for the transplant. We still have two children at home. One in college and one in high school. They will remain in the home during this time. We have also been raising three of our young grandchildren.  We have a caregiver for them, but will still need to support them financially.  As you can imagine, this is a lot of extra expense. I will lose the income from my full time teaching job during this time, making this request all the more urgent.
