Statement from Melissa Marcum (mom)
My son was assaulted last night by 3 young adult males. He was asking the boys to leave a party at his friends house after they showed up uninvited and tried to hurt his smaller friend. One of the boys blind sided him with a huge alcohol bottle across his head while the other two cowards kicked his face and ribs in on the ground. He was transferred to another hospitals ICU where he will undergo surgery to keep his eye in place as the bones are shattered in his face. We are waiting to hear from the neurologist about the bleeding on his brain. Apparently there were about 100 kids at this party so I am asking anyone who has video footage or knowledge of the kids names to either report such to the police or private message me. Please don’t respond with your opinion on what should happen to these boys as whatever causes them to be the monsters they are right now is unknown. What I do know is they are not safe to have on society at this moment and need removed from such before someone gets hurt again or killed. Prayers however are appreciated!

Thank you for all your prayers and well wishes. This community is amazing and we feel your love! My son just got out of surgery and All seems well so far. Tons of stitches, metal plates in his face, and the bleeding on his brain they think will resolve itself. They are concerned of possible nerve damage or eye damage but praying for the best. Many brave kids have come forward with statements to police and videos. To be honest I wish I didn’t watch the video as it will haunt me. Still in need of one of the perpetrators names and better video footage. Many kids are scared of these boys as allegedly they have been assaulting kids all summer and they fear retaliation if they speak out. One of the kids has martial arts training and one I guess just got out of jail. Again this is all hearsay so let’s be careful not to invoke a Lynch mob and let the police do their job. Please do not post any names on here. On another sensitive matter it has been brought to our attention that these boys allegedly were touching girls inappropriately at the party so I encourage those girls to come forward as well. These boys need stopped! Please direct any reports to the Nevada County Sheriff and please don’t call unless you have information as it will slow the investigation. I assure you this momma will make sure everything that can be done will be. My son will be out of work for a bit and medical bills are piling up so the sooner these boys are brought to justice the better so they can pay for the damage they caused!
Update #2: Many have been asking about an update on my son whom was assaulted last Friday night. He is home recovering. I posted a pic on the go fund me page of him. His face is much more swollen now than in that pic as the ICU nurses tried to warn us to expect. It’s hard not to cry when I look at him. Surgery went well and he now has metal plates in his face holding his eye in place. The blood on his brain seems to have resolved itself and will be reabsorbed into his body so I am told. He had his first eye apt yesterday and thankfully the pressure in his right eye has gone significantly down but he still can’t see out of it. We have another eye dr apt in a week. He is on the road to recovery and I am taking off work to care for him. Had some issues getting his meds and trying to pay for a very expensive medication. Also some challenges getting his pain meds after getting home from hospital as apparently we don’t have any 24 hour pharmacies up here so had to drive to Yuba City after a long day at the hospital. My coworkers are providing dinners for us and I can’t say what a blessing that has been this week! Feeling very thankful and blessed to have such people in our lives.
The investigation is underway. Thank you for those coming forward and providing video footage to the sheriffs. Thank you for also keeping such footage off social media (mostly) as these young adult men don’t need any recognition for doing what they did. Something tells me they enjoy the negative attention. I am confident Justice will be served! Let them go to jail without a spotlight to bask in!
To the young men that did this. I hope you find healing for whatever causes you to carry so much hate and rage. I hope you can reconcile what you have done. There was no honor in blindsiding someone with a bottle in the head and then beating him while incapacitated on the ground. One of you has martial arts training and should know what honor is. You will have to live with your shame. I can’t forgive you yet but will someday. Make yourself worthy of that act of forgiveness. Not for me and my family but for you and yours.
To the ones standing around enjoying the scene and laughing in the video in the background. You are not blameless and I hope this helps you become better people!
The video I saw of my son being beat incapacitated on the ground will haunt me forever. Thankfully not all of it will because in that video I also saw an incredibly selfless act. To the little (probably about 90lbs) angel that put herself over my son and between my son and his perpetrators. My heart does not have enough words to describe how I feel. You probably saved my son from worse injuries or even death. I hope you were not hurt as the end of the video your being shoved by the perpetrators and looks like he may have hit you. In a world of giants you are a David. I hope your family and friends know the incredible and brave thing you did for my son. If I never get to meet you, I am sending a heartfelt hug to you and hope your life is full of many blessings. What you have in you will help you achieve great things in life and I am eternally grateful you were there that night.
