Equity for Ecuador!

Hello all, this summer I have come across the opportunity to delve into the culture of South America, Ecuador specifically, with the SDSU College of Extended Studies! Awesome, yes I know, BUT the situation isn't all blue skies. It is not the cheapest for me, and the indigenous people really need a hand up. This program is a great leap in that direction, and allows for knowledge and progress in the dynamics and power of sustainability and community empowerment.
Because the program is entirely homestay based with the locals, I will be directly involved with a broad spectrum of disparities that are inevitable to developing countries who lack a nourishing infrastructure. So, we will be guided on the path of sustainable structure through ecological conservation, preventative and direct health services, gender equality, small business development, and local politics. This aligns superbly with my studies here at SDSU as I study Public Health, whose main focus is eliminating poverty and the disparities of health.
I work tons and tons while going full time at SDSU, so it is a complicated differentiation between who's really helping who here. I see many other students struggle financially, and its not pretty. It's pretty overwhelming quite frankly, and it would be the greatest thing for us to get out into the outside world and give back and be grateful for what we do get to see at this level of education.
When I do find free time in hand, away from the classroom or work (although I love the girls I work with, always a blast) I find myself and awesome friends outdoors either climbing things like hills, larger hills, some mountain peaks, and sometimes really awesome rocks in which I get to find my roots again, to be able to intertwine with the natural world, the greatest teacher of all. Other favorite places of mine are at demonstrations, having my voice be heard for matters like climate justice, or finding awe in my favorite bands that I can groove with. I love my family, they are my foundation.
I really need all your help to get here, to finally see some light at the end, preferably from the beautiful Ecuadorian sun, and grasp some tangible things I can grow with. I have one more year here at SDSU, and it is time for me to start making some serious decisions in the path that I have chosen. I would love to be involved with matters that I am passionate about, need to be a part of that change, and am not saying no to this opportunity. To learn and be a part of empowering small communities through all things sustainable is not desired, but needed at this time. Get me there, and I have also promised to donate a huge lump sum of my proceeds. If I can reach my goal of 3,000, I have promised to donate 25% of that straight to the foundation where they seriously lack materials they need for every day life. Lend a hand, beautiful people.
