Hurricane Relief for Baja

On Sunday, September 14, Hurricane Odile devastated communities from the southern most tip of the Baja peninsula to Vizcaino, five hundred miles north. Over eleven inches of rain poured from the sky in less than an hour, causing flash flooding and taking out roads. One hundred twenty five mile per hour winds snapped trees, toppled telephone poles, ripped off roofs and flattened homes. Most are still without electricity and communication is limited as telephone, internet and cellular services are slow to be restored. Some lost all.

I am grateful that to date, there has been no loss of human life. However there is widespread destruction and a shortage of the basic necessities for survival, including food, water, housing and medicine. In addition, many farmer's crops, land and buildings have been seriously damaged or destroyed. A quick response is needed to alleviate hardship and help the San Jose del Cabo community gain a foothold and begin rebuilding their lives.

What we are doing...
My friends and I are creating a plan for recovery. For each community, we're identifying the urgent needs both in basic living essentials and in materials and equipment needed to restore homes and farming operations. We are collaborating with the greater network of the farming cooperative we work for to provide the best support and relief efforts possible. Per improving communications and road conditions, our cooperative trucks have already begun travelling directly to the affected areas, bringing food, water, sanitation supplies, blankets, clothing and other essentials like generators, cement mixers and other construction materials.

How you can help...
Many have asked what they can donate or do to help these communities. We have determined that purchasing goods in Mexico is the most expeditious way to provide relief; therefore, donations of cash are best. Our team on the ground will secure and deliver the items. The needs are vast and with your support, we can help many.

Please donate generously and keep us in your prayers.
