Evis's Tummy Troubles

Our family recently relocated to Puerto Rico. Me (Morgan), my husband Argenys, and our beautiful 8-month-old daughter Evis have been so excited to settle into our new island life!

A few days ago, Evis started to have diarrhea, which many babies do. When her condition didn't improve after 3 days, we took her to a doctor who sent us to the emergency room.

Currently, she is receiving IV fluids and awaiting the results of several diagnostic tests. At the minimum, she will be in the hospital until Tuesday or Wednesday (3/16). Possibly longer since they won't have test results until early this week and then they'll treat and stabilize her before releasing her.

My husband and I are both self-employed. Additionally, we're in the midst of a relocation - not only to a new country, but also from our temporary housing to our long-term lease. We were planning to move across the island from our AirBNB in San Juan to our apartment in Mayaguez on Monday.

So many people have offered to help, and we are so grateful. If you choose to make a donation, your contribution will be used in the following ways:

1 - Food and supplies for my family while we spend almost all of our time in the hospital.
2 - Replacing lost wages. We're both self-employed and have to put our work/business on hold until our bb is better.
3 - Accommodations. Our AirBNB rental ends on Tuesday, March 15th. After that, we'll be sending our belongings ahead to our new apartment and moving into a hotel room a little closer to the hospital.
4 - Unexpected hospital bills. Evis is covered by her insurance and should have $0 copay for emergency treatment, but I know that sometimes things end up being expensive when they shouldn't.

Any funds that are not used for the listed expenses will be put towards a donation of diapers for Puerto Rico Women's and Children's Hospital. On our first night there, we ran out of the diapers that we'd packed. When I asked a nurse for more, she told me that they have very few and limited sizes because they only have diapers that have been donated. So, I want to deliver a whole truckload of diapers of every size to help other families who might find themselves in a similar situation.

This has been such a difficult and unexpected turn of events. We are so grateful to everyone who has reached out with encouragement, support, and asking for ways to help. As recent transplants, we don't have a support system here like we do back in the States. The sense of caring and community we get from your messages and efforts is even more impactful in this particular situation.

Above all, we are thankful for your thoughts, prayers, intentions, and rituals for a speedy recovery for our precious little nugget. We are desperate to see her healthy again.

Thank you.

Love,
Morgan, Argenys, and Evis Taveras
