Dear Friends,
Like many other LGBTQ spaces around the world and in the US, we have served for years as a refuge, a safe haven for our community, mainly POC LGBTQ people, and have shaped the culture of our neighborhood, by being the first openly Gay Black Owned Bar in Harlem.
But today, we are on the brink of shutting down our doors for good.
Gay nightlife is not just drinking and partying, it's also a place for young gay, lesbian, transgender people to come and find acceptance, love and support. Bonds are strengthened, communities are built, families are created.
This is even more true for POC LGBTQ communities who are often the population with little to no queer places representing their, our identity.
And this is the mission statement of Alibi Lounge. And we hope to continue to accomplish our mission. Being the first and only Gay black owned bar in New York State was never a proud badge of honor. We want to inspire and encourage our people in our neighborhood to do what we did so we could thrive and become a stronger community.
We want to work. We want to work hard as we always have for the past for years. We want to employ young LGBTQ people, we want to pay our rent, our taxes, our vendors, we want to give back to the community as we have always done, on our own!!!
But today, with the pandemic and its endless restrictions, we are close to loose our space.
We urgently need your help. If we can't reach our goal, Alibi Lounge will shut down for good by the end of March.
