Let us introduce ourselves; we are the NY Rising Rebels Basketball AAU 16U/10th-grade team. Our program is a Non Profit 501c3 organization created in the summer of 2020, during the height of the pandemic.
With basketball rims being taken down and all parks locked, we had no opportunity to play the game we love or even see friends. However, with our Coaches' collaboration, in August 2020, the NY Rising Rebels Basketball program was born. The program's first official tryout was fantastic; over seventy players attended. As a result, the program was able to field four age-group teams.
We started our season that Fall, and due to NY restrictions, we had to travel out of state every weekend, an hour plus, to play the game we all love. However, this changed once we were able to practice in the Yonkers Police Athletic League Center. We started hosting our Tournaments with strict restrictions for teams in the local area. We provided an opportunity for inner-city teams and other teams to play. During this time, no schools in NYC could have a high school season; therefore, our program allowed local basketball players to compete and continue to work on their skills and get recognized by colleges. Our Varsity team that season had many players that committed to playing at the college level, and others attended college for academics. This would not have been possible without our coaches' efforts and their vision for a new basketball program.
Our program has a brotherhood connection from the minute you are accepted into it. No matter the age or grade of a player, each player is welcomed and loved. Our program has created and continues to develop bonds, friendships, connections with other teams, coaches, and relationships that will last a lifetime.
This past year we have had a core group of student-athletes that have been playing with each other since the beginning of the Rising Rebels program. These players have learned many life lessons, as well as having success on the court and in the classroom.
At this point, you may be asking, why should I donate?
Our team and program is very diverse, as student-athletes we strive to excel in the classroom and with our coaches guidance and confidence, we aspire to be role-models for younger players in our program.
This trip to Indiana to attend a National tournament would be a highlight that would soon not be forgotten! If you give donations to us, you will be giving it to a team that is a diverse team, with players from many different backgrounds, nationalities, and classes. This program teaches us that being of mixed ethnicities is to be celebrated but most importantly, what matters and what shows oneself true character is how we treat each other. How we respect and value everyone's opinion even when we disagree.
Your generous donation would allow us an opportunity to compete against teams from all over the nation as well as potentially get recognition from college coaches on a national level.
Your generous donation would allow us the opportunity to represent our local town, our county and our state on a national stage.
Your generous donation would allow us the opportunity not many young basketball players can afford to experience.
