Yesterday, I received a group message from Antonio's teacher asking for donations. It's typically been for school supplies or things for the nurse but this time was different. She asked us to donate healthy snacks for kids who don't have 'anything or enough to eat'.
Honestly, I haven't been able to get it out of my head. Antonio and I dropped off some snacks this morning but I couldn't help but wonder what else we could do.
I contacted his teacher to find out everything I could. Turns out there's 8 of 28 kids in Antonio's class alone who have over $25 of lunch debt. Unfortunately, kids with lunch accounts oweing over $25 cannot be provided a school lunch.
Teachers have been keeping snacks in their classrooms for the kids who may need them but with the end of the year coming the number of kids needing snacks because of their lunch debts is increasing quickly.
There's kids in every class who are in the same situation and that's why I'm reaching out. Once we reach our goal I will talk with Antonio's teacher to see whether paying down lunch accounts or making a big food donation will benefit the most kids. Any amount is appreciated. Thank you.
