Imagine the heartbreak for parents never hearing the words, "mama" or "dada" when their child is 3-5 years old. All parents eagerly wait for their child to talk.
Yet, kids on the Autism Spectrum have to be taught how to say basic words such as "mama", "dada", "want", "more", "yes", "no", "mine", and "all done". They often use behaviors to communicate such as pulling their parent/caregiver's hand to get what they want, screaming, throwing things they don't want, or having meltdowns because adults cannot figure out what they want.
This year's COVID-19 crisis has only heightened these problems that families with kids on the Autism Spectrum are facing. More and more parents / caregivers are needing to learn strategies and tools to help their child more effectively communicate at home due to behaviors escalating.
Hi, my name is Robyn Weilbacher and for the past 30+ years, I have worked as a Speech-Language Therapist with young children on the Autism Spectrum. I recently retired and started my business, RW LANGUAGE THERAPY AND CONSULTING (Specializing in Autism, Family Support, and Coaching) to help these particular families.
My purpose is to teach parents / caregivers with young kids on the Autism Spectrum how to help their child communicate and interact during everyday activities and routines at home.
I teach the Hanen Centre MORE THAN WORDS 8-week class to provide tools, strategies, and support to teach parents / caregivers how to help their young kids on the Autism Spectrum communicate and interact more effectively with others. The program costs $500 per family. I offer a sliding scale for those that have limited resources. However, since COVID-19, many families have lost income and cannot afford to take this class, even though it could help change their lives for the better.
My request is to donate $10, $20, or $50 to my "Every Child with Autism Deserves to Communicate" fund, so RW LANGUAGE THERAPY AND CONSULTING business can provide additional funding for more parents to take The Hanen Centre MORE THAN WORDS 8-week class.
