Everlee's Battle Against Cancer
Donation protected
Meet Everlee Warf, an energetic, happy, and loving 3-year-old little girl that loves playing with her little miniature rescue dachshund (Minnie) and her older sister 6-year-old Aubery. She is the sweetest little girl who is truly loved by her sister, mother Surena, and father Avery.
Surena, Avery and Family’s Tragic Life Change:
After not feeling well for a number of days we took Everlee to the University of Kentucky Children’s Hospital (UKCH). After numerous scans, bloodwork, and exams it was determined that Everlee has a Wilms Tumor (Nephroblastoma). This is a type of cancer that impacts young children and causes cells in the body to grow out of control and typically results in growths on the kidney. In addition, scans of Everlee have shown that she has two gene mutations that makes her more likely to get cancer again. The scans also determined that Everlee has spots on her lungs that may be cancerous.
On April 8th she had a 5-hour long surgery at UKCH to remove her right kidney and a tumor the size of a cantaloupe. This required us to remain with her at UKCH for a week. Currently, Everlee has begun chemotherapy treatment every Friday which requires us to transport her to UKCH and remain with her during the course of the treatment. This chemotherapy is scheduled to continue for several months. After each treatment, Everlee usually develops a high fever and we have to return with her to the hospital. She also develops other side effects like nausea, loss of appetite, and the normal hair loss associated with chemotherapy treatments.
This past week Everlee had additional scans of her lungs to determine if the spots discovered during the initial scans had been impacted by the initial chemotherapy treatments. The scans showed there was no change in the spots on the lungs. Her doctors are going to have to biopsy these spots shortly to determine if they are cancerous and, if so, what type of cancer it is and the type of radiation and more aggressive chemotherapy she will have to undergo. Which puts Everlee at risk for breast cancer, leukemia and fertility problems later in life.
As a result of Everlee’s diagnosis and treatment the Warf family’s world has been turned upside down. We both have had to constantly be involved with taking Everlee to appointments, treatments, and after care to the point where Surena has been completely unable to work and Avery is working sporadically. When we are not working, we do not get paid. We also only have one vehicle so when we have appointments and emergency room trips it means Avery is not able to work as he has no alternative transportation. We have been told to prepare for a long journey of treatments, including chemotherapy, possible radiation, medications, scans, frequent hospital visits, and hospital stays. So, our ongoing financial situation will continue to be very difficult and imposes a significant hardship to afford the expenses of daily life.
Your contributions will make a significant difference in Everlee’s battle against cancer. Every donation. No matter the size, will help alleviate the financial burden and allow the family to focus on what matters most – Everlee’s health, well-being, and full recovery.
Thank for your love, support, and enduring compassion.
