Everest’s Therapies

Donation protected

On April 28th, 2019 our son, Everest went down for a nap, and went into cardiac arrest due to SIDS, complicated by RSV.  He was resuscitated by paramedics, but was without oxygen for an extended period of time, and as a result his brain was severely injured. He was hospitalized at Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital, and for the first two weeks was not expected to survive his brain swelling. If he did survive, they predicted that he would be in a vegetative state, unable to breathe on his own or have the most basic functions.

But he did survive, and on May 12th, (Mother’s Day) his ventilator tube was removed, and he breathed on his own. He also had gastrostomy (G-tube) surgery, as he isn’t able to eat orally. He was diagnosed with an anoxic brain injury, with spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy. After a month in the hospital he was finally discharged and went home.

Shortly after going home Evie and I (Danette - his momma) went to New Orleans so that Everest could do Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy with Dr. Paul Harch, a leader in the field. This therapy has helped many brain injury survivors recover significantly. In the two months we were there, Everest’s motor skills, tracking, alertness and overall wellness improved due to the therapy. So we decided to continue HBOT at home by buying our own chamber to use and /still be seen by Dr. Harch.

Everest will also be doing Stem Cell therapy after we have finished setting up his home chamber for HBOT. All of these treatments are out of pocket, on top of his regular extra therapies, counseling, etc.

We’re determined to pursue every treatment option we can find for Everest. Anything outside of the usual therapies for Everest is not covered by insurance, so we are paying for everything ourselves. We have had SO much help from people all over the world already, and are incredibly appreciative. Everest would not have improved as much as he has already without the generosity of so many. But he still has a long road ahead of him, and we still have to be financially able to support him. We are incredibly thankful for every person who loves and has cared for our baby boy. Thank you. ❤️
