Evelyn & Ivonne Recovery Fund

Donation protected
In Lak’ech Dance Academy is raising funds to support two of our bachata competition team members, Evelyn and Ivonne, after surviving a horrific drive-by shooting.

On the afternoon of October 6th, 2018, Evelyn and Ivonne were driving from their house to dance practice. For reasons unknown, they were targeted and shot around the corner from their house. Ivonne was shot in the arm and Evelyn was shot in the back, neck and head. Evelyn’s wounds were life threatening, requiring a successful emergency surgery. After a week in the ICU, Evelyn transitioned into a rehabilitation center. Evelyn and Ivonne are now beginning an intensive and lengthy outpatient care regimen. They both continue to make amazing progress and are incredibly grateful for the immense amount of love and support they have received in this difficult time.

We are asking our communities to help support Evelyn and Ivonne with medical bills, relocation expenses, rehabilitation costs, assistance with a down payment for a new car, and several months of reduced salaries from their disability wages.

Evelyn and Ivonne met after joining a bachata dance team in San Francisco. They quickly fell in love and began to build their lives together. Their dance journey led them to becoming members of the In Lak’ech Dance Academy bachata competition team. They were scheduled to compete at a world-level competition in December, a dream that is now placed on hold.

Dance played a pivotal role in their relationship and continues to be a motivating factor in their recovery. Their physical therapists are incorporating bachata music and movement into their sessions. We believe in the healing power of dance as well as the healing power of community. Please help us in supporting this healing for Evelyn and Ivonne by donating and sharing this campaign.

Please also love each other and help each other stay safe.
