Eve in Greece!

It has been a remarkable year with many adventures for me, primarily my taking a leave of absence and volunteering in Greece, the country I have developed a deeper love and burden for, as it is in such a crossroads now with both the economic and refugee crises at their peak, that I feel so deeply moved to serve there with all the diverse needs. I had the privilege and opportunity to serve homeless and low-income Greeks and migrants/refugees at the community center of a local church, to help with a weekly after school program for kids in the neighborhood, and volunteer with an organization that reaches out to women that are victims of trafficking. I also had the opportunity to coach two teachers who taught refugee and Roma children. Although I have now officially resigned from Boston Public Schools, I take so many things I've learned from working in urban communities with me. The Second Evangelical Church of Athens has invited me to serve with them full time, and thus extend my stay in Greece to follow my call of sharing and showing God's love to those in need, in Athens. Friday is Women's day at the center, where both Greek and migrant women from various economic backgrounds can come for a meal, and the opportunity for taking showers, doing laundry, crafts, and bible study is offered. The women especially love getting manicures!
