Store Improvements

Donation protected
UPDATE: We made our initial goal of $15K so are adding a stretch goal of $15K - which will allow us to move beyond the current crisis and focus on creating a sustainable store. Our major goals are to build up our savings since they have dwindled to near zero due to the last year's financial hardships, and provide funding for floor renovations.

****************************************
Previous Goal:

Thanks to the cooperation of all our members, the Co-op has navigated through a remarkably challenging year. But as summer picks up, the recurring heat waves are causing our older fridges to fail, costing us thousands of dollars in spoilage every time. These challenges, combined with lower revenue from slow summer shopping, have put the Co-op at serious risk of having to close our doors.

Our updated goal is to raise $15k. It’s a lot, but it would go a very long way.

What we've done with the $7,200 (of our original $10k goal) raised so far:

1. We bought a (practically) new freezer to replace our old unit that frequently breaks down

2. We paid for a new gate to keep the store both visible and secure when closed.

What we still need to do and why we've increased our goal to $15k:

Our meat cooler and five-door dairy fridge keep failing, which leads to wasted inventory and an inability to meet our monthly expenses. Replacing the meat cooler and the five-door dairy fridge would help us prevent thousands of dollars in losses, maintain a fuller inventory to reliably meet shoppers’ and prospective members’ needs, and use the significant amount of store manager and member-owner time that’s currently spent responding to fridge failures on more proactive tasks to improve the store and help the community. It would also be great for everyone’s mental health.

Our initial estimates are that it will take $7,500 to replace these two fridges, which we can’t meet using existing resources. Our community has demonstrated incredible generosity in previous moments of need. If you’re able, please donate to help. If each member-owner contributed $20 on average, we’d reach this goal. Every dollar counts.
