Eugenie Needs An Accessible Van

Hi folks! Thanks for stopping by our GoFundMe campaign. For those of you that don't know us, I am a single Mom and Eugenie is my beautiful 16 yr old daughter. We live in Port Elgin, Ontario. Eugenie has Cerebral Palsy and a seizure disorder. She does not walk or talk, and uses a manual wheelchair to get around. She is dependent upon a caregiver for all aspects of daily life, including lifts and transfers to and from her wheelchair. Eugenie now weighs over 100 lbs, and as fit and defiant as I am, I have been struggling with these manoeuvres for some time now. The time has come for an accessible vehicle. The fully modified vehicle itself will cost upwards of $53,000. This price has increased dramatically from quotes I received last fall for numerous reasons...1.) I didn't anticipate a lot of extras/options that we will require (extra seating, storage, etc for our respite family and long road trips). 2.) inflation. 3.) apparently because it is still early in the year, although there are no 2017s available that meet our needs, any 2018s that do are in high demand and at a premium, the vendor has to shop around for the van that meets all of our requirements, and this takes time, something I don't have the luxury of waiting for... The March of Dimes will fund up to $15,000 for modifications to vehicle, leaving us to come up with $38,000 to cover the remaining cost. Why a brand new van you ask? Because it has to last us for at least 10 years. We cannot reapply to the March of Dimes Home and Vehicle Modification Program again before that time. As a single Mom who can only work part-time because of my daughter's needs, I do not have the necessary means to purchase/finance a brand new vehicle.  I have to always have my own vehicle and will now be insuring and maintaining 2 vehicles.  I cannot support loan payments on both.  And so, I have continued to lift by daughter in and out of my van. Until now... it's no longer safe, it's only a matter of time until one or both of us becomes injured. And so, here we are, appealing to anyone willing to help us acquire an accessible van. We have set up a trust account at Meridian Credit Union in Port Elgin for anyone wishing to donate via that route. If you are part of a Community Group or a Service Club who wishes to assist us, please do not hesitate to contact me for further info. I am attaching an updated final invoice from vendor. President's Choice Children's Charity has committed to assisting us with a $10,000 grant and this is reflected in our total raised to date. I also add in any and all donations made offline, either personally or through our trust account, so the total you see here is an accurate amount. This has proven a much bigger and more complicated project than I first anticipated. Wish us luck... we're down to the wire! Thanks for caring and sharing xo
