Gene had medulloblastoma brain cancer as a 9 year old and family was told he would not survive.  Through experimental treatment, he beat the odds and was cured of his cancer, with complications from radiation.

27 years later at age 36 he developed a new brain tumor in the same area- Glioblastoma Multiforme.  This tumor has poor prognosis and treatment involves (1) brain surgery, (2) radiation, and (3) chemotherapy, which will add an average of 12-18 months to a patients lifespan.

Gene has undergone (1) brain surgery to remove as much of the tumor as safely possible on July 4, 2019.  After brain surgery he was walking, talking, eating.... You wouldn't know there had been either a tumor or brain surgery!  Since then, with date of writing being August 14, 2019, Gene has largely lost the ability to speak, the coordination to walk on his own, the energy to use a walker, and the ability to eat and is now being fed through a tube.  (2) Radiation and (3) chemo are expected to take place when he gains some strength back.

In this turbulent time, expenses are building up.  Gene himself has limited insurance and both he and his mother are on limited income. His mother is literally caring for him 24/7 through a current hospitalization, and daily needs supplies, medical supplies, food, and bills (medical and cost of living) are adding up rapidly.  Any amount to help will be appreciated, and sharing this story to give others an opportunity to help will mean the world to us.
