I am a middle school special education science teacher and I appeal to everyone with a benevolent heart to help our family raise funds for my 1st born grandson Ethan. Ethan Jon Invento was born last November 29, 2013 in a normal delivery there in the Philippines. After 2 days in the hospital the doctor heard a murmur sound in his heart thus the 2D Echo was performed and was diagnosed with Ventricular Septal Defect subpulmonic. A ventricular septal defect is a hole in the wall of the heart (septum) that separates the left lower chamber (left ventricle) from the right lower chamber (right ventricle). The hole allows blood to flow from the left ventricle to the right ventricle instead of entering the aorta for distribution throughout the body. Ventricular septal defect is one of a group of heart problems found in newborn babies that are collectively called congenital heart disease. For some cases the hole will just close over time however not in the case of Ethan and only surgical procedure will correct the condition and prevent any future complications.

Ethan’s parents were advised to save 1Million pesos (Philippine currency which is about $25,000.00) for his heart surgery and will be performed there when he is 1-2 years old. A heart surgery is not covered by the insurance in the Philippines and his parents even with our help cannot afford the medical cost. Ethan is about 7 months now. He is a happy child and getting stronger each day. I have not seen my grandson in person yet but seeing his smile and happiness is our strength for this journey. Being away from my family is difficult but I believe a lot of good hearted people out there are willing to help.
